These are isolated infrasyndesmotic lesions of the lateral malleolus. The .1 subgroup is the complete rupture of the lateral collateral ligament, the .2 subgroup is the avulsion fracture of the tip of the lateral malleolus and the .3 subgroup is the transverse fracture of the lateral malleolus. Depending on its degree of severity, the ligamentous lesion may require its suture or conservative treatment. The fractures with a small fragment will require fixation with wires (larger implants cannot be used) and neutralization of the traction loads with a tension band.

 

Internal fixation with a one-third tubular plate, preferably previously contoured as a hook (see A2.3), can be performed if the fragment is large enough and the quality of the bone is good.
