These are serious fractures that must be treated by anatomic open reduction and internal fixation with interfragmentary compression by two 6.5 mm cancellous screws, introduced through the anterior portion of the condyle right at the edge of the articular cartilage. |
When the condylar fragment is small, internal fixation must be performed with the smaller 4 mm cancellous screws. These cases are at risk of developing avascular necrosis. Non-weight-bearing must be lengthy. |
