| These are partial articular fractures of the distal femur involving the medial condyle in the sagittal plane. The fracture line is simple and goes through the intercondylar notch (non load-bearing area). | Ref.

As in all articular fractures, anatomic reduction is mandatory. Interfragmentary compression between the condyles is obtained with cancellous screws, that can be placed from medial to lateral or vice versa. In any case, it is mandatory that all of the threads of the screws are completely within one of the two condyles. |
In the case illustrated on the right side of the page, the ascending fracture line required the use of a small plate for crucial additional support. In the case illustrated on the left side, there was an avulsion of the proximal insertion of the medial collateral ligament. In the case B2.3 (below right) a stable anatomical reduction was achieved just by means of cancellous screws. A 3.5 mm antero-posterior screw is fixing a fragment with a frontal fracture plane. |
