These are articular fractures of both bones of the forearm. Ref. Manual of Internal Fixation:

The results are always uncertain because of the difficult simultaneous reduction and containment of both joints and especially because of the difficulty to obtain early motion. Heterotopic ossification is an added complication.

Reconstruction of the ulna is essential in order to avoid

 

secondary dislocations. The radial head should be reconstructed if at all possible but, if the radius congruence is in doubt and a good stable reduction of the ulna is obtained, the excision is preferable in order to maintain the pronation and supination, an especially important function in an elbow with a limited flexion-extension motion.
