These fractures are frequent in children but rare in adults. They can be fixed with two 4.5 mm. self-tapping cancellous screws that usually get a good hold in the inner walls of the quite compact metaphyseal columns. The screws should not invade the olecranon fossa. The smaller diameter (4.0 mm.) cancellous screws usually break if used in isolated fashion; This is why it is preferable to insert two parallel screws (13-C1.2) when |
using
this type of screws. The osteotomy of the olecranon can usually be avoided. |
